The Proposal: @RyanPratt & @AllyTaulbee's love story

Christmas 2009.

Ryan Pratt and Ally Taulbee fell in love on Christmas Day, 2009.

But their love story starts long before that day...

Ryan and Ally's lives came together like a fateful movie -- at times a hopeless drama and simultaneously a romantic comedy. There were a few tears but mostly laughs. Some good times, some bad. But some memorable, movie-like moments always brought them back together.

In the Winter of 2001, Ally and Ryan locked eyes at opposite ends of the long golden hallway just outside the purple gymnasium at Jackson High School. They didn't speak. But it didn't matter. It was a typical high school romance.

Then one Saturday morning in the Fall of 2005, Ryan and Ally locked eyes once again. This time just outside the Starbucks on North High. Though basically strangers at the time, their embrace felt more like that of two long lost lovers in a classic 50s film. Her warmups were a brilliant scarlet on grey film.

Then there was the notorious strip beer pong tournament in the basement of Ryan's house on Lane Ave during the summer of 2006. Ally won. And Ryan lost. It was college.

In the summer of 2007, Ryan met Ally at Lido's on North High for drinks. Her best friend was bar tending. Ryan showed off. Ally giggled. And to this day that is all they remember. It was college, the sequel.

The following year, Ally and Ryan spent a hot summer day in the lagoon-style pool at The Barn in Dublin, Ohio. Ryan sat on the shallow brick edge as Ally hung on his dangling legs. Their conversation drowned out the DJ by the bar. It could have been a scene from Gatsby.

In 2008, Ally and Ryan spent their first holiday weekend together watching a Christmas movie marathon, which included Home Alone, Scrooged, Elf, Fred Claus, The Santa Clause, and, of course, Die Hard. He surprised her with a Horton Hears a Who DVD and stuffed elephant.

2009 was their first "official" Christmas together. They had been "going steady" for only a few short months, but they were already madly in love. Ally's family spent the week in NYC and Ryan was in Canton. But they "celebrated" the weekend before and exchanged 143 texts on Christmas Day.

On New Year's Eve, Ryan called Ally from the dark street outside a bar in Cincinnati. Ally was on the beach in California pre-gaming for her march in the Rose Bowl parade. As the clock struck twelve, Ryan proposed to Ally for the first time. It was more-so a drunken declaration of love than a marriage proposal -- but even then he meant every word.

By 2010, they were inseparable, and spent those holidays traveling together to each other's family homes. Ryan was already plotting the official proposal.

In 2011, Ally moved her dresses into Ryan's closet. Cali and Barley became sisters. And that December, they bought their first Christmas tree together.

By the summer 2012, he could not wait another moment. On July 2nd, he went to Jared's. It was a secret to everyone but his two best friends. He walked out with the perfect gift and a grin from ear-to-ear. Ironically, later that night, she wept on his shoulder, wondering if he was ever going to propose. It was the only secret he ever kept.

On July 10th, he bought a fake Christmas tree online. Two days later that tree arrived at the door. Ally teased, "What is it? It's too big to be a ring!" Ryan lied as he stuffed the box on the top shelf in the garage, high above Ally's reach, "Just a little surprise for Nut Ridge babe."

On July 23rd, the ring arrived. It was a special order, designed online, a perfect 1.43 carat princess cut diamond. 143, a numerical expression of "I Love You" -- three numbers that followed them everywhere.

On the morning of July 24th, they left for work together -- but Ryan had other plans. He went to the store instead. Ensuring she'd come straight home after work, he lied one last time, saying his sister was in town for dinner. But Ryan wasn't at the store for lasagna noodles, instead he picked up a "Christmas" ham, pine scented candles, and 3 rolls of red, white and green wrapping paper. He returned home, pulled the boxes from the garage, and began decorating. By 3pm, the house was covered in lights, inside and out. And he'd even wrapped the presents. The ham was in the oven, the candles were lit, and the gifts surrounded the tree.

One small red box with a white bow stood out from the others.

Watch the entire proposal:

I know.

The greatest movie quote of all-time?

"I know."

Simple. Elegant. Cool. Confident. Romantic. Sexy. Tough. Great.

And like Han Solo, that's all that needs to be said.

Ohistorical Marriage Proposal

Hey dudes, I got a fantastic idea for a marriage proposal that I can't use -- because I have an even better one for myself -- but I wanted to share because it shouldn't go to waste.

It came to me in a dream -- a dream where I actually proposed and it was wildly successful. So use this yourself, or make a movie out of it, because it's perfect. Here is what you need to do:
  1. Create a fake Ohio Historical Marker sign for "Where [insert name] Proposed to [insert name]"
  2. Post the sign in a park (or along a walking path).
  3. Take your girlfriend (soon-to-be fiance) out for some fresh air.
  4. Walk by it (if she doesn't notice -- stop and say, "Woah! Did you know this?".
  5. Get down on one knee.
  6. Start your proposal once she realizes what its says (the bottom half of the sign can be your verbatim proposal, but make sure to read it out loud yourself -- don't just have her read it -- she will never get through it without crying and screaming).
If anyone does this, please let me know how it goes!

Thanks, and good luck!

    Must Haves for Football Season

It’s mid September. Leaves are changing colors. The weather is getting colder. Another school year has started. And O.J. is finally going to jail (that is kind of like the ultimate make-up call in sports history). But September also brings another football season. And for many men in America, that means couch potato season. And for a lot of women, that means boredom. But it doesn’t have to be that way. So take the advice of one of the greatest characters in movie history, “quid pro quo.” Something for something. A favor for a favor. Give and take. If you just started dating, good luck! No, just kidding, but it will take a little more effort than it will for those couples who have been together long enough to thank the heavens for the plasma screen male babysitter. So while the men are pounding beers and feasting on cheesy poofs, don’t volunteer to be the miserable maid, instead try one of these great ideas. And make sure you buy some of these must-haves:

What is the Hardest Thing in the World?

Does anyone have an opinion on what they consider the "hardest thing" in the entire world? Add it in comments if so!

Top 5 Showmances in Reality TV History

Here are some of the best showmances in reality television history:

    1. Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich (Survivor All-Stars) - Rob and Amber fell in love during the filming of All Stars. Many of us - myself included - thought that this was just another one of Rob's dastardly deeds. However, it seems that Rob really fell hard for Ms. Brkich.
    2. Nick Warnock and Amy Henry (The Apprentice) - It was kinda cute watching two eggheads in love. Well, sort of. Nick and Amy certainly held each other in high regard. They flirted, and it showed. So much so that The Donald picked up on it in the boardroom.
    3. Brigitte Nielsen and Public Enemy's Flavor Flav (Surreal Life) - Gitte and Foofie as they called each other sure made a striking - and surprising - couple. They seemed to give the rest of us hope that any two people could find each other. VH-1 immediately figured out the marketability these two had. That's when Strange Love was born. Strange Love was a look at the relationship of Flavor Flav and Brigitte Nielsen despite some serious complications, such as her engagement to Mattia Dessi. In the end, Gitte broke Flav's heart when she returned to Mattia.
    4. Nick Starcevic and Daniele Donato (Big Brother 8) - Nick has admitted he is in "total like" with Daniele. They officially kissed on a live internet feed. And even though Daniele HAS a boy friend... she still kissed Nick... Nick even went to NY to see Daniele on "The Power of 10" and wrote her a letter when she won HOH.
    5. Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt (The Hills) - Heidi and Spencer started dating on the MTV show and never looked back... despite a hundred reasons to do so. Heidi's former best friend LC hated Spencer; Spencer comes across as a man-whore; Spencer's best friend Brody is no more; Heidi's parents worry about the young engagement; Spencer is an idiot who thinks graffiti on the living room wall next to arcade games is a mature thing; etc etc etc.

    Never

Change falling out my pocket clanging against the pavement. Playground balls whizzing at my head. Not a clap to be heard with my diploma in hand. Laughs, chuckles, and inconsiderate ‘We’ll give you a call’s one after another.

I find myself as alone as it is imaginable. My apartment could just as well be a dessert or an uninhabited island. Sandy floors sound better than concrete. The only place to rest my feet is my lumpy twin mattress. My resources for food are what my high school friends were eating forty years ago at college. Falling into dreams at night, I can’t imagine how I could ever share my bed with someone, as uncomfortably cramped as it is already.

The only place I’ve felt wanted since my grandmother passed away has been my habitat more-so than my apartment. She used to take me to the zoo when I was young. Before I was out of the stroller I could mimic every animal I saw.

It is surprising. They make such a big deal in school about graduating and they say you won’t go anywhere in life if you don’t. Well I got my diploma, I tried to apply for jobs in the city, but now it was a college degree I needed. It didn’t seem fair.

Like second nature, I turned to my childhood and got a job as a caretaker at the zoo. I usually worked eighteen hour days. My boss, Mr. Jenkins, didn’t mind overtime because they didn’t pay overtime.

“Custodian guy!” All the college educated kids who got to train, feed, name and cure the animals would always yell at me to clean up the shit and trash from the cages. I had my own names for most of the animals. My best friends were the bald eagle, Windy; Honey the grizzly bear; Jackson the jaguar; and the crocodile, Chompers. When people weren’t looking, I’d occasionally still make those animal noises. Somewhere deep down I hoped they could understand me and they were attempting to communicate back.

    “Yes, Mister Jenkins?”

“I wanted to talk to you about your time here at the zoo. I think its great how much emotion and feeling you have towards these animals. Most of these kids I’ve hired spent six years in college pretending they cared, but they have no idea.”

    “I-I agree, no idea sir.”

“Do you remember when the last time you received a paycheck from us in the mail?” I thought back and remembered nothing but those playground balls and my empty nest. “Nineteen months ago. Almost two years.” I questioned what he was telling me. Had it really been that long? I couldn’t make any distinction between memories from forty years ago or yesterday.

All I could say was “I’m sorry.” I walked out the door holding back the rain. The animals hated the rain. I strolled past the cages on my own two feet now. These were my memories, this was my life. I thought, “No one has ever loved me as much as I loved them.” Just before I passed through the gate I looked over at Jackson. He tilted his head and seemed to purr like a housecat would. I knew that I was wrong.
